The Golden Age of Glamour

I have been watching this on repeat all morning. Another reason (which include Mad Men, The Graduate and Marie Antoinette) why I would really love for someone to invent time travel. asap.

The series investigates three decades in history, notorious for their glamour. The second instalment is all about the roaring 20s. plotting the rise and unglamorous fall of youth group The Bright Young Things. A group of cross dressing high society youths, drinking and partying to excess. Inspiring novelists and artists alike, including a young Cecil Beaton who photographed many of their antics. This collective of excessive youths partied with no regard or sensitivity to the economic struggles of the rest of the country during the Great Crash of '31 and the workers march from the north onto london. They paraded themselves before the press and became the first definition of celebrities popular culture has known. The final installment in the series is avaliable to download from BBCiplayer.

This photograph of the man central to the group, Stephan Tennant. Who put gold in his hair and wore lipstick and has been described as the David Bowie of the time.

Here is also the film written and produced by Stephen Fry. Based on the novel 'Vile Bodies' written by Evelyn Waugh another member of the Bright Young Things.

ISSUE #1

The first Issue of NERD magazine will feature articles and ideas surrounding the themes and ideas of 'Collection and Curating.'

Focusing on artists such as Martin Parr and Arman who both collect items or images of popular culture as part of their artistic expression.

Another idea is to explore personal style. Nature or Nurture and the phenomenon of double dressing.

Hello.

huh?
Nerd Magazine is a magazine made lovingly by a bunch of recent graduates.

What?
Nerd Magazine is about lots of things. But with the main purpose and idea to inform. Writing about all of those people, ideas and events always referenced in popular culture but not always explained. the idea is that we do all the reading and researching for you and put it into a lovely looking magazine. No big words, and lots of nice pictures.

On this blog we will be uploading appropriate imagery and articles, and also document our progress.
Hope you find it useful, and enjoyable.
